Performance of (co)Axial at the Seoul International Computer Music Festival 2024

My video music piece (co)Axial (2021) was performed at this year’s Seoul International Computer Music Festival. The Seoul International Computer Music Festival is a sound art performance that combines various media such as musical instruments, electronic sounds, videos, and new media, and is held every fall as a differentiated performance that shows new ways and possibilities of harmonizing music and technology. As Asia's first computer music festival, it has grown into a music festival that leads the global trend of computer music with the presentation of high-quality works by active artists at home and abroad until its 31st anniversary this year.

Lost Tapes Vol. 1 - Time Capsule Composition

Lost Tapes Vol. 1 is the first in a series of cassette tape-based compositions to be released over the next five years. As we run out of time to address the worst of the climate crisis and limit nuclear proliferation, an apocalyptic future becomes more of an inevitable reality with each passing day.

Lost Tapes is a collection of environmental soundscapes, sonified image data, electromagnetic distortion and snippets of my own compositions, combined to form an auditory collage of a musical life before the collapse.

After the recording of the video performance of the tape piece, this tape was buried in a time capsule in an undisclosed location in the city of Tkarón:to. Each volume in the tape series over the next decade (1 every 2 years), will be buried in similar capsules across the Greater Tkarón:to Area. My hope is that future generations that potentially survive the oncoming collapse will find these tapes, decode the auditory warnings and messages from the old world, and experience extinct acoustic signatures from a long-gone era of human civilization.

Deflexion, Summers & A New Era

I've spent the last decade working as a contemporary music composer, sound artist and producer. The launch of Deflexion and the name, Summers, marks a new chapter for me as an artist, as I branch out in genre from my existing background in contemporary classical music.

Deflexion is:

  • An 8-track lo-fi and synth-filled EP that combines dreampop and datawave

  • Created using warm analogue synthesizers and vintage drum machines

  • Influenced by 1980s-1990s electronic music and the 2010s vaporwave movement

  • Inspired by retro game soundtracks like Final Fantasy 8 and Donkey Kong Country

  • Comprised of sonic landscapes to listen to while you drive, browse online, vibe through a gaming session, and more!

I've already been working hard on the tracks, and am so excited to share with you all this important new period of my artistic career.

Wondering how it sounds? Listen now to an early (unmixed) sample of a track from the album! I have 7 more tracks just like this one that are already in the late production and early mixing phases.

Your support will help take us beyond the completed mixes and make the full album a reality. Not only will you add this album to your own collection, your support will help fund emerging independent musicians, producers and audio engineers collaborating on this project.

ROY G BIV: Light Sensor Saxophone!

ROY G BIV uses an ambient light sensor attached to an alto saxophone to measure changes in both colour and light intensity. It then uses these changes to radically alter the saxophone’s sound.

So excited to have teamed up with performer Stef Haynes for this project. Thank you to the CMC for the use of their space for the development of this project.

Joined the CLC as Chair of External Advocacy

I’m very excited to have joined the Canadian League of Composers’ board as the Chair of External Advocacy, as well as sitting on the Professional Development Committee.

As chair of Advocacy, my role will be to help advocate for composers across Canada for better pay and fairer working conditions as I work to set rates and interface with royalty organizations.

In my role with professional development, I will help the CLC develop PIVOT and their webinar lecture series.
